Silver Lake Regional High School, Kingston & Pembroke, Massachusetts. TORCH 1979.

When Albert Argenziano became Direc-
tor of Secondary Education, we at the
Silver Lake Regional High Schools lost a
great principal, and a true friend. Mr.
Argenziano was a dedicated adminis-
trator, devoting long hours and much-
needed support to the student body. His
enthusiastic participation in school func-
tions endeared him to all. Many of us
may remember him as the Indian Chief at
the Dump-the-Eagles Pep Rally in 1975; or
as the impromptu traffic cop during the
blizzard of 78. And who could forget his
'unique' dancing style at the )unior Prom?
His open, caring and sincere personality
has made Mr. Argenziano one of Silver
Lake's best-loved principals. We, the class
of 1979, would like to say, "Thank you,
Mr. Argenziano, for all you've done for us
and we wish you much success in the
years to come."

To some members of ihe class of 1979,
this will conclude twelve years of formal
educalion. Our scfiool dislricl has at-
tempted, through a diversity of programs,
to provide each of you with some basic
competencies.

Other members of this class will continue
to pursue formal education through vari-
ous types of post-secondary educational
programs. Your academic preparation will
enable you to seek new levels of in-
tellectual involvement.
My message to you is brief but pointed.
Whatever you do, in whatever capacity,
in whatever environment — do it to the
best of your ability. Pride, commitment
and integrity must become part of your
performance if you are to attain your
goals. Through this individualistic ap-
proach, you can provide future gener-
ations with a better world in which to

Paul Sciuarcia

9^/^^.

If we are to grow as we face the uncer-
tain future, then we have to prepare for
failure. Here is another major stumbling
block in the foundation of change. Amer-
icans love success; love it too much. We
must, through the Class of 79, recapture
the failure that leads to growth and suc-
cess and invention. If we cannot tolerate
some waste and some mistakes, then we

I suggest that you never act unless you
have conviction. If you are convinced,
then you will not try to blame another for
a mistake and you will count mistakes as
steps toward a goal.

I would like to take this opportunity to

congratulate, commend and honor you,

the Class of 1979. „■

Smcerely,

aig^g

Albert F. Argenziano

Director of Secondary Education

TO MEMBERS OF THE GRADUATING
CLASS

To provide you with a lifelong remem-
brance of your years at Silver Lake, this
yearbook has been developed.

While words and pictures can aid in your
reflections - the real reflections come in
maintaining constant contact with your
friends and with the school.

We are all proud of your accom-
plishments and wish you the very best in
the years which lie ahead. Maintain a
positive outlook and remember your
years and experiences with us.

Best of luck and happiness.

Life is like a game.

It's taking each moment

and making it count.

In a game there

is a given time to play.

The end will always arrive,

but the outcome is

not always determined.

Each period is worth something

whether a small feat or a

great victory is accomplished.

It doesn't matter which

of these occur.

At least when it's over,

you'll realize that the total

joy was touching people

and just participating.

"Well, in our country," said Alice, still panting a little, "you'd
generally get to somewhere else — if you ran very fast for a
long time, as we've been doing."

"A slow sort of country!" said the Queen. "Now, here, you see,
it takes all the running you can do to keep in the same place.
If you want to get somewhere else, you must run at least twice
as fast as that!"

Hardie Pierce was much more than a coach to us.

Whenever we did calisthenics or ran, he was right there

with us, working just as hard or harder. By showing us that

he was not afraid of hard worl<, it made us realize that each

of us, as individuals could do anything. As long as we had

the desire and a true heart to excel, we were capable of

mighty things. Besides coaching baseball, Mr. Pierce taught

something more important: the value of and the way to

become better human beings.

After practice, we would be thoroughly exhausted, and Mr.

Pierce would go out the door and jog home. We all

wondered how a man more than twice our age could

endure so much. Knowing the drive he possessed made us

all proud to have kncjwn him. Whenever we thmk of hard

work, we will think of Hardie Pierce.

"You can really have no notion how delightful it will be
When they take us up and throw us, with the lobsters,

out to sea!"
But the snail replied, 'Too far, too far!' and gave a lool<

askance —
Said he thanked the whiting kindly, but he would not join

the dance.
Would not, could not, would not, could not, could not join

A tale begun in other days,

When summer suns were glowing —
A simple chime, that served to time

The rhythm of our rowing —
Whose echoes live in memory yet.
Though envious years would say "forget;

Come, harken then, ere voice of dread.

With bitter tidings laden.
Shall summon to unwelcome bed

A melancholy maiden!
We are but older children, dear.
Who fret to find our bedtime near.

Without, the frost, the blinding snow,
The storm wind's moody madness —

Within, the firelight's ruddy glow
And childhood's nest of gladness.

The magic words shall hold thee fast:

Thou shall not heed the raving blast.

And though the shadow of a sigh
May tremble through the story.

For "happy summer days" gone by,
And vanish'd summer glory —

It shall not touch, with breath of bale,

The pleasance of our fairy tale.

(Through the Looking Glass)
